Lovely Bones 5/10 I don't get the point. Nice visuals, but they felt like anyone could have done them with some decent animation software. The story was...well there wasn't much of one. I expect much better from Peter Jackson.
Book of Eli 5/10 Wow. Borrring. Nice looking flick at times, with some decent violence, but ultimately it seemed pointless and some parts were confusing.

Predators 6.5/10 I wanted to rate this higher. I tried to talk myself into it, during and after the movie. But I just can’t. They tried. And overall they still did a decent job. The cast was pretty good with kudos to Brody for pulling off badass better than I could have expected. But the writing was pretty crappy. It was about the best it could have been considering no one asked for it. A fun rental.

Inception 7.5/10 Remarkably well-made movie. The writing was top notch. Music was decent. Acting was great. The effects were convincing as hell. I think a lot of them were done quite practical. Yet why didn't I mark this higher? Two reasons: First, there weren't elaborate moments in the film that rose up to the sci-fi effects of The Matrix; which I expected, yet acknowledge is not the filmmakers' faults. Second, as nearly every Nolan film before it; I was left cold to the film. It just felt so cold and distant, I couldn't latch on to anyone or thing in the film. This isn't a bad movie at all. It's quite good. It proves Hollywood isn't completely trash. There is hope. I guess it boils down to this fact: the movie demands a second, third or fourth viewing, and I am not sure I need to see it more than once, which incidentally happens to be my issue with every Nolan flick other than Memento.

The Cove 7/10 Really interesting documentary about the slaughter of 23,000 dolphins a year in Taiji, Japan. As this won the Oscar for Best Documentary, you probably know all about this. However, what I will mention is how this is about much more than the killing of dolphins. The thing that depressed me most about the film wasn't the killing of the dolphins, it was the levels of greed and corruption that it all involved.
Hulk (2003) 4.5/10 This was the third time I've seen this, but the first since its release. TBH, I only watched it because I told a friend that I would, to try and see what the hell he saw in it. I'm still baffled. Apart from the editing and lighting, this film's got nothing for me and is boring as hell, to boot.
Romeo + Juliet 8/10 or 10/10. I really can't decide atm. This used to be one of my favourite films of all time, but I've not watched it since I got ill in '99. Watched it for the first time since then and, as much as I still love it, I felt pretty awful while doing so. Lots of memories and feelings I'd rather forget came flooding back.
Touch Of Evil 6.5/10 I like this, but never as much as I think I do.
Citizen Kane 10/10 This is the complete opposite. I love this and yet, every time I watch it, it's even better than I remember. It's both brilliant and I love it like I love all my favourites.
D.O.A (Dead Or Alive) It's rubbish, but it's totty engorged rubbish based on the videogame. Basically, I watched it again because I always take one crappy/cheesy film with me along with whatever else I think people will want to watch. This was it and they wanted to watch it.

Hulk 9/10 Sorry HK. Yet weird we watched this around the same time. I love this movie. It just nails what a movie about the Hulk should be. It loses a point for having a mediocre ending.
Despicable Me 5/10 Eh. It's cute. My wife loved it. I kept falling asleep in the theater. Bored me half to death. There was nothing wrong with it I guess. Just didn't grab me. I just really wasn't the demographic for this one.

lol... I know that we're at opposite ends most of the time, but you thought the editing was medicore? It's the tour de force of the film. We are talking the 2003 version, yes? With Eric Bana and Jennifer Connelly being really boring and uninteresting. ----------------- I often wonder how I'm going to die. You don't want to embarrass friends.

read my post again I said ending, not editing. I am full agreement about the editing. I LOVE the editing in this flick. ----------------- Hello, fellow American. This you should vote me. Ah, so you did. My apologies.
Yes, the ending is horrible. The father son face to face and fight that follows is dreadful.

I can't believe you saw Clash Of The Titans, wd. Do you need me to tell you not to bother with Prince Of Persia as well? ----------------- I often wonder how I'm going to die. You don't want to embarrass friends.

Thanks for the info WD but just knowing it was a re-make of a classic told me to skip it. The previews did not help it either. None of them made the film look good. [ This message was edited by: Kenage on 2010-08-04 22:19 ]

I saw Prince of Persia already HK It was better than CotT. The first isn't a good movie by any stretch of the imagination. I figured they couldn't do worse. And they didn't. But they didn't do better either. ----------------- Hello, fellow American. This you should vote me. I leave power. Good. Thank you. Thank you. If you vote me, I am hot. What? Taxes. The Other Guys 4/10 Ok. So I like Ferrel. I love Anchorman. This movie was getting good reviews. Wife was interested. It had some amusing parts, but this movie was more Tallageda nights than Anchorman and therefore I did not like it. What a waste of money. It just tried so hard with too much retarded humor.
101 Dalmations 8/10 Haven't seen this since I was kid. Great flick. Superb animation, good music, frightening villain. It felt a little stuffed and drawn out sometimes, but this was still a classic Disney flick.

Scott Pilgrim 6.5/10 I don't mind Michael Cera and I like Edgar Wright. I hoped this would be fun and it was sometimes. However, it was a little boring, a little long and too hipster for my tastes. But the biggest problem? A weird musical number that felt so random, it yanked me out of the flick and I couldn't get back into it. [ This message was edited by: wd40 on 2010-08-16 07:55 ]

The ExpendablesI had pretty low expectations going into this film, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. While I've read complaints about the CGI, that didn't bother me much. The film is action packed, Stallone and Statham have great chemistry, there's humorous banter, and Mickey Rourke even plays one scene like an Oscar contender. It's fun.

Figures you would find a screen cap with Statham in it EP. So what rating would you give it?

Hehe, of course. I would give "The Expendables" a B-. Which is generous for an action flick for me.

I see. I think I might just wait for it on DVD or blu-ray. I think they had every action star in it except for Van Damm.

An interview with Sly on Aintitcool confirmed that Van Damme's ego was just way too big for the movie.

In one story I read WD it seemed like it was more on Stallone. He talked to Van Damm but he could not give him any idea on what kind of role he would have (i.e. how many lines and such). Van Damm did not want to do it unless he had a better idea on the role ahead of time. Sure he probably wanted as big of a role as possible but it seems that they could not come together in part because Stallone couldn't give him any firm answers.
