I loved Unbreakable. I thought it was a great film and a great idea. I also had heard that it was the first of a trilogy and didn't know what happened to that but I guess I understand now.

Forget trailers, I write films off in pre-production and casting. lol.

My friends are always slating me for this, but I know my tastes and I'll be dammed if I'm going to shell out the thick end of $14 to prove it to myself.

haha. Well I do try and give movies the benefit of the doubt. They can always prove themselves with that last chance trailer. Though I have avoided a few here and there before they even begin, some have actually turned out better than I figured they would be. Movies I would have never ever given a chance, I ended up liking a lot. For example, Zoolander. Never wanted to, but I did. And it's one of my fav comedies.

i must say that on occassion it has been known for me to like a film I thought I'd hate. This week I saw "Frailty" which I didn't think I'd like because of Matthew McConaughey and Bill Paxton, but they weren't as annoying as they ususally are (or maybe the parts just suited them as the characters were annoying too)

Spiderman was a film that I wasn't bothered about (although I wasn't sworn against it) but I started to hear that the script was very good (IMO most comicbook films scripts are just a succession of words which link the scenes) but I was blown away by just how good it was. Spiderman 2 was a letdown though, nowhere near as good IMO.

I'd just like to say that I've never seen "Zoolander" because I can't stand Ben Stiller and I don't think I ever will see it either. His new one "Dodgeball" looks very much the same thing, only not in the fashion world.

I can't believe you didn't like Spiderman 2. IMO, its the best movie of the year. It had a great script and the development of Peter Parker as a character was great. I almost think that it was better than the first one. It is a lot of development though and I can understand how people would be turned off buy it. There is nearly as much action in it as there was in the first one.

Now on Dodgeball, its not really the same as Zoolander. They are both kind of stupid comidies but other than that, there isn't anyhting thats the same. Stiller plays a evil, if you can call it that, character and Vince Vaughn is as good as ever. Starsky and Hutch would almost be a Zoolander 2 if there ever was one.

I do not agree. 'Cept there's nothing wrong with that. I really thought this movie was completely fantastic as well. I don't think it was better, but I do think it was literally just as good. The development was fantastic, I just missed watching Spidey whippinh through the city and showing his mug all over.

From CNN.com

Ten years after original, Kevin Smith plans 'Clerks' sequel

LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- Kevin Smith is making another convenience store run.

The writer-director of "Dogma," "Chasing Amy" and "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back" told the Associated Press on Friday that he has begun work on a sequel to "Clerks," his homemade indie classic from 1994.

That $27,000 movie, shot at night in a store where Smith worked, chronicled the adventures of Dante and Randal, two guys who talk about life, death, sex and movies while working at neighboring stores.

The sequel picks up 10 years later.

"It's about what happens when that lazy, 20-something malaise lasts into your 30s. Those dudes are kind of still mired, not in that same exact situation, but in a place where it's time to actually grow up and do something more than just sit around and dissect pop culture and talk about sex," Smith said during an interview at his Hollywood office. "It's: What happened to these dudes?"

A new 10th anniversary DVD of "Clerks" debuts September 7, and Smith said working on that three-disc set inspired him to write about what became of those characters.

The sequel -- titled "The Passion of the Clerks" -- is set to begin shooting in January. Miramax Films, which turned the original into a cult-hit after buying it at the Sundance Film Festival, plans to distribute the follow-up.

"It's funny, it's very raw, insanely foul-mouthed. In many ways it's the antithesis of 'Jersey Girl,"' Smith said, referring to his recent PG-13 comedy with Ben Affleck as the widowed father of a little girl.

Smith is also writing the screenplay for a movie version of "The Green Hornet," but no longer thinks he will direct it. The "Clerks" movie has moved to the top of his to-do list.

He said he called Jeff Anderson, who played the combative video-store worker Randal, and Brian O'Halloran, who was the besieged-by-strangeness convenience store employee Dante, to run the idea by them first.

"Jeff was actually very protective of 'Clerks,"' Smith said. "Jeff was like, 'Are you sure you want to do this? That movie means a lot to people and do you want to go back?' I thought about it honestly, and it would seem chicken to not give it a shot just because I'm afraid of (messing) with the first film."

So far, he said he has gotten only positive responses from the people who have read the script, so he decided to move forward with it. Both O'Halloran and Anderson are signed on, and Jason Mewes, will return as stoner Jay, the "hetero life-mate" of Smith's stoic Silent Bob.

"I'm sure there will be naysayers who say, 'Oh my God, it's an opportunistic grab at a buck,' but it's not. We're doing it for nothing," Smith said. "We're going to do it insanely inexpensively. The budget will be somewhere between 250 grand and $5 million."

The original was shot pre-dawn, and most of the actors worked for free and then went straight to their day-jobs with little or no sleep.

"This time around we'll afford ourselves the luxury of nice 12-hour days," Smith said. "And people can get paid."

OMG! I can't wait for this! :-D

Why do you think that? Being popular now allows Smith to choose a budget that will be good for the movie. And with paying the actors now, and with inflation rates, I can see the budget being as high as $5 million.

dude did you look at the range?

250k to 5 million? thats awfully broad to be accurate.

If ya ask me, I say put Smith in a small room and stop him. Clerks 2 sounds like a ridiculous idea.

Thats actually what Jeff Anderson was thinking until he read the script and then he was on board with the whole idea.

...but since he was in the first, I would assume he thought it was also good. That's all I need to know.

Clerks sucks.

What? I haven't seen Jersey Girl yet (not really bothered about it) but IMO Clerks is the best movie he's made.

Not really bothered about a sequel to Clerks but if he does it and it's any good then I'll see it.

I think Chasing Amy is his best. I think Smith is a pretentious, immature movie maker who thinks he's smart just because he can write a stupid rave about some dumb topic like Star Wars.

LOL... I knew that you'd say Chasing Amy was his besst film wd, mainly because I think it's his worst. :-D

In fact, in my last post, I almost said that I'd bet it was your favourite.

How we get on I'll never know. :-)

I liked "Clerks" a lot. I don't mind that Smith's fondness for the characters has made him want to revisit them.

"Chasing Amy" is by far my favorite Smith film. Haven't seen "Jersey Girl" yet.

P.S. Sorry, hoser -- didn't know you'd posted this here and started another thread. I tried to delete the other one, but couldn't see that option.

I'm all for Clerks revisited! Clerks is by far the best low-budget cult film of all times! I don't think its Smith's best, but it will always remain one of my favs.

As far as the budget goes.. I think its great that he actually has the money this time around. I hope he keeps it low-buget, seeing how the original cost about $300, financed on a credit card!

Jersey Girl was ok, nothing better than J.Lo dying! LOL

after reading Smith's thoughts and comments about PotC, I'm all for it! its not going to be full of star cameos, or full of stars period. Only 4 of the original characters will return. Randl, Dante, Jay and Silent Bob. Jay and Silent Bob will have about as much screen-time as they did in the original.

From Dark Horizons:

Variety reports that the Sci Fi Channel has signed Ridley Scott to executive produce and supervise a four-hour TV mini-series remake of the 1971 thriller "The Andromeda Strain", whilst they're putting Frank Darabont in charge of a four-hour remake of the classic horror "The Thing".

Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Robert Schenkkan is writing the adaptation of "The Andromeda Strain" based on Michael Crichton's famous novel about a group of scientists who gather at an underground facility to destroy a virus from the upper reaches of the atmosphere that has killed the inhabitants of a small town in New Mexico. The four hour runtime will give Scott & co. more time to explore the characters and the situation they find themselves in.

David Johnson is working on the script of "The Thing," based on the short story "Who Goes There" by John W. Campbell Jr and most famously adapted in 1982 by John Carpenter. The tale is of an alien parasite, which can take over the mind and body of a human being, causing havoc on a military compound isolated at the tip of the South Pole. Johnson should complete his adaptation by Christmas and shooting could get under way next year for an airdate on Sci Fi of either December 2005 or early spring 2006.
