'Perfect' sinkhole forms during Guatemala storms

A cavernous and almost perfectly round sinkhole swallowed an entire intersection in Guatemala City during a tropical storm.

The hole is 66 feet across and plunges nearly 100 feet down.

Geologists said that the circular shape suggested a cave formation underneath, but what exactly caused the sinkhole was still a mystery.

The sun has got his hat on..."I can tell you what it's not: It's not a geological fault, and it's not the product of an earthquake," said David Monterroso, a geophysics engineer at the National Disaster Management Agency. "That's all we know. We're going to have to descend."

The sinkhole formed Saturday and gulped down a clothing factory about three miles from the site of a similar sinkhole three years ago.

"The boys were lucky," resident Honora Oliva said. "They left at six that afternoon, an hour before the earth opened up."

Neighbours said a weekend security guard also was spared because he had left to tend to his house, which flooded from heavy rain as Tropical Storm Agatha bore down on Central America. The storm has killed at least 179 people.

Some neighbours believe one or two people might have disappeared, but authorities said no deaths had been reported.

Crews were waiting for blueprints of the city's drainage system before investigating further.

The 2007 sinkhole killed three people and swallowed several homes in the same area. It was blamed on rain and an underground sewage flow, but it is too early to say whether those problems are to blame this time, said Monterroso, who also investigated the previous incident.

Police and soldiers stood guard around the sinkhole to prevent the curious from getting too close. Most people living nearby have moved out, fearful the hole will expand and swallow more homes.

"We're not going to wait," said one man who declined to give his name. "We've already rented elsewhere and we're leaving now."

Woman claims to be world's heaviest mum

!!! QUOTE !!!

A woman has claimed to be the world's heaviest mother.

Mother-of-two Donna Simpson, 42, weighs over 272kg but hopes to reach 455kg, Reuters reports. Simpson has one 3-year-old child and another aged 14.

A Guinness World Records spokeswoman confirmed that it is reviewing a claim from Simpson to be the heaviest woman to ever give birth.

Simpson said: "The bigger your butt is, the bigger belly you have, the sexier you are... I would love to be a voice, so that people can see a woman of size having a regular family.

"I'm very healthy. I go to the doctor every three months... I've always been comfortable with myself. It was just everybody else that wasn't comfortable with me."

Her fiancée , Philippe Gouamba, 49, added: "You look at her curves and see her full belly and generous hips. It's very sexy."

Mother sells breast milk to men online
!!! QUOTE !!!

A new mother has been selling her breast milk online to earn extra money while on maternity leave.

Toni Ebdon, 26, of Exeter, Devon, came up with the idea after a friend joked about her opening up a dairy when she produced excess milk for her son David, SWNS reports.

Ebdon said: "I was expecting women who couldn't breast feed to get in touch but instead all the responses were from men.

"Breast milk has healing properties and I think people want to use it for those reasons. I tend not to ask too many questions or pry into people's private lives."

She added: "All communication prior to the sale is done via email and I meet the customer in person to hand over the milk.

”They can have it fresh or store it in the freezer for up to one month. I always feed my baby first so he gets the most nutritious milk.

"I haven't made loads of money but there's plenty more milk to come and I intend to carry on selling it until it dries up."

Ebdon charges £15 for 4oz of breast milk and has ten regular customers.

Officials 'accept 157yr-old woman claim'
!!! QUOTE !!!

Census officials in Indonesia have reportedly accepted a woman's claim to be the oldest person in history.

According to AFP, the authorities believe that South Sumatran villager Turinah was born in 1853, making her 157 years old.

Statistics bureau official Jhonny Sardjono said: "There's no authentic data to prove her age but judging from her statements and the age of her adopted daughter, who's now 108 years old, it's difficult to doubt it.

"Despite her age she still has an incredible memory, clear sight and has no hearing problems. She speaks Dutch quite fluently."

He added that Turinah burnt all her identification documents to distance herself from an alleged communist coup in 1965.

According to accepted records, the oldest person ever to have lived was French woman Jeanne Calment, who passed away on August 4 1997 at the age of 122 and 164 days.

Guards 'impressed by smuggler's bottom'

!!! QUOTE !!!

A police spokesman has admitted to being impressed with how much contraband a prisoner was able to smuggle up his bottom.

Gavin Stanger, 24, of East Wenatchee had been booked into Chelan County Regional Justice Center on a charge of disorderly conduct, The Wenatchee World reports.

He surrendered the items to guards after they found a plastic bag and duct tape in his toilet. Guards had previously found no items on Stanger during a pat down and strip search.

The contraband included a bottle of tattoo ink, eight tattoo needles, a cigarette lighter, rolling papers, a one-inch smoking pipe, a small bag of suspected marijuana and a bag of tobacco the size of a golf ball

Wenatchee Police Department spokesman Sgt John Kruse said: "We were all wondering, 'How do you put all that up there?'. The tobacco was pretty impressive; it was a good ounce."

Stanger, who was due to serve three days for his original offence, has now been charged with introduction of contraband into the jail.

Ok so after reading all those here are my questions,

Why would someone want to get that big, heart attack anyone?

Are men that eager to get breat milk? Ever hear of getting someone pregnant, then you can have all the milk you want for a different price...a beautiful child, and hopefully a loving women.

Why would you want too live that old, not too say she should do herself in but man...really? I think I would lie about my age by maybe 50 yrs hahaha.

I really don't want too know how they got all that up there, and what they did to strech themselves so they could get all that up there. Needles??? Really??? Think about it, you wouldn't be able to sit down.

Just my thoughts after a long vacation from here.

Because people equate fame with good or useful and notoriety with having lived a productive life. That, or because she's American. One of the two. ;)

Well, some obviously are. However, you've pretty much answered the first part of your question with the second part. :D

I really don't want too know how they got all that up there, and what they did to strech themselves so they could get all that up there. Needles??? Really??? Think about it, you wouldn't be able to sit down.

To be honest, the fact that needles were included is one of the main reasons that I posted that story, for the reason you put forward. :D

!!! QUOTE !!!

A 74-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of damaging public library books with ketchup, mayonnaise and other condiments.

Joy L. Cassidy of Boise has been charged with misdemeanour offences of injury to property and carrying a concealed weapon after a loaded handgun was found under the seat of her car, Idaho Statesman reports.

Local police believe Cassidy may be responsible for over ten cases where liquids have been poured into a book drop box at Ada County Library on Victory Road since last May.

Police spokesman Chuck McLure said that officers staking out the library had stopped Cassidy's car and determined that she had dropped an open jar of mayonnaise into the book box.

He added that a motive for the alleged vandalism had yet to be be determined.

Student throws puppy at Hells Angels
!!! QUOTE !!!

A student has been arrested after reportedly throwing a live puppy at a group of Hells Angels before escaping on a stolen bulldozer.

Local police said that the 26-year-old caused a three mile traffic jam near the Bavarian town of Allershausen as he slowly fled to his home, Reuters reports.

A police spokesman explained that the student had been suffering from depression but added: "What motivated him to throw a puppy at the Hells Angels is currently unclear."

He added that the puppy was now in safe hands.

Navy offers reward for missing torpedo
!!! QUOTE !!!

Taiwan's navy has reportedly offered fishermen a cash reward if they find a torpedo it lost during a drill.

The German-built missile disappeared off the naval base of Tsoying in southern Taiwain after it came loose from a cable connecting it to a vessel last week, Deutsche Presse-Agentur reports.

Director of the navy's fleet command Wen Cheng-kuo said: "We have budgeted 30,000 Taiwan dollars (£630) as a kind of compensation since it might damage the fishing net during the salvaging process."

The navy reportedly lost a torpedo with 182kg of explosives in 2003 when it missed its target. It was later found on the north-eastern shore of the country.

Matador fined for fleeing arena
!!! QUOTE !!!

A matador has been arrested and fined after he jumped out of the ring at the start of a bullfight.

According to local media, Christian Hernandez, 22, was charged for breach of contract when he fled the arena of the Plaza Mexico to a chorus of boos, The AP reports.

Hernandez was persuaded to re-enter the ring by officials, with video footage showing the torero with his hand over his head and pointing to the heavens before leaving again.

Speaking in a TV interview, Hernandez said: "There are some things you must be aware of about yourself. I didn't have the ability, I didn't have the balls, this is not my thing."

It is believed that the bullfighter was severely gored in the leg several months ago in a previous fight. Hernandez has since announced his retirement from the spectacle.

'New York Times' bans 'tuchus', 'tweet'
!!! QUOTE !!!

The New York Times has reportedly refused to print the word 'tuchus', which is Yiddish for bottom.

Writing in The Atlantic, journalist Jeffrey Goldberg revealed that the newspaper asked him to use a different word when they quoted him for a piece about the Middle East.

Goldberg said: "I've been taking a fair amount of both 'ribbing' and 'joshing' from friends who objected to the use of the word 'tush' in a quotation I gave to The New York Times' Helene Cooper.

"I actually used the word 'tuchus', rather than 'tush', but she phoned back a couple of hours later to tell me that the newspaper's Special Committee for the Proper Deployment of Yiddishisms ruled that 'tuchus' is insufficiently elegant, and so could I please offer a substitute."

He added: "I asked Helene for a suggestion, and she came up with 'tushie'. I responded by questioning whether the word 'tushie' could be considered more elegant than the word 'tuchus'.

"I also told her that I could not allow myself to be quoted using the word 'tushie' because I am no longer 4 years old."

Meanwhile, an email from Times standards editor Phil Corbett leaked to The Awl revealed that journalists were asked not to use the "inherently silly" phrase "tweet" in their articles.

"Some social-media fans may disagree, but outside of ornithological contexts, 'tweet' has not yet achieved the status of standard English. And standard English is what we should use in news articles," he said.

"'Tweet' may be acceptable occasionally for special effect. But let's look for deft, English alternatives: use Twitter, post to or on Twitter, write on Twitter, a Twitter message, a Twitter update. Or, once you've established that Twitter is the medium, simply use 'say' or 'write'."
