OK, I've decided to start it up and see what happens. Sorry about the delay this season.

I'll be very brief this season, as I think were pretty sure which teams have the best chance. That said, there have been a few changes which may/will make a big difference.

Last years champions, Manchester United, have sold their best player (and arguablely the best player in the world) Cristiano Ronaldo. They also let striker Carlos Tevez go and he's crossed the city to rivals Manchester City. Fans and pundits alike are also concerned about the midfield, but the manager hasn't bought there, and so, obviously feels confident.

Chelsea are largely unchanged, though they do have (another) new manager.

Liverpool appear to have weakened their team, with the sale of Xavi Alonso.

Arsenal have also sold without much coming in. A new defender replaces Kolo Toure (Manchester City) and joining him is their top scorer for the last 2 years, Emmanuel Adebayor. This has lead to Arsenal changing their formation to one that, arguably, suits their play better, but we'll only know by the end of the season whether the gamble paid off or not.

As you may've noticed, Manchester City have been spending like there's no tomorrow and have spent over £200m on players in the last 12 months.

Everton, Aston Villa and Tottenham should be the other teams vying for the top 6 places.

Birmingham City, Burnley and Wolverhampton Wanderers were the promoted teams and join this seasons Premier League. As usual, all are strongly tipped to go straight back down, though Hull City and Portsmouth are also being tipped to go too. I'll just note here that Burnley, though probably candidates for relegation, have beaten Manchester United 1-0 this season. It was a rear-guard action, but a win's a win and proves that, as always, just because you should win, doesn't mean you will.

Here's the weekends fixtures.

The first team is always the home team. Sorry about that. I know I've mentioned it before, but just assumed that you all knew. Apologies.

I'll post the results later.

No problem HK. Do you think they are going to have some kind of investigation into the Man U overtime thing?

No. The reality is that there's nothing to investigate. I might sound like a bias United fan here, but playing more time than was displayed by the 4th official happens in most games. Usually it's not as long as 2 extra minutes, I'll grant you, but it only matters because United scored. Had it ended 3-3 you wouldn't have heard much, if anything, about it at all.

The referee said that he added on 55 seconds for Bellamy's celebration (as it happened in the time added on) and 30 seconds for the United sub (which is a standard amount of time.) The United goal has since been timed and Owen's goal is timed at 95':26" which is one second past the time the ref added on in injury time. They then played another 16 seconds until the final whistle blew. Basically, it's all pretty kosher and will just pass into the usual ABU mythology about "Fergie Time", ref's giving United as much time as they need to score and United always getting penalties. Just another stick for them to beat United fans with, but we don't care.

Actually, if you go to football365.com you'll see that it's not really a story now (they're all looking at Bellamy getting invovled with the fan that ran on the pitch) and, even among the fans, the concensous seems to be that if City had defended properly and kept the ball, United wouldn't have had the chance to score.

A great weekend for me (as you may've already gathered) though I still think that Rio Ferdinand should be fined two weeks wages for playing such a stupid pass. I also think that he should name his next male child Michael, in recognition for Owen saving his arse. OK, on with the reason for this thread, the results.

Saturday September 19
Arsenal 4 - 0 Wigan
Aston Villa 2 - 0 Portsmouth
Bolton 1 - 1 Stoke
Burnley 3 - 1 Sunderland
Hull 0 - 1 Birmingham
West Ham 2 - 3 Liverpool

Sunday September 20
Chelsea 3 - 0 Tottenham
Everton 3 - 0 Blackburn
Man Utd 4 - 3 Man City
Wolverhampton 2 - 1 Fulham

honeykid     13+3
EPlayer         7+1
Kenage         6+1

Not a bad start for us, but a particularly good start for me, thanks to 3 correct predictions. It seems that Aston Villa 2 - 0 Portsmouth was the most obvious result of the weekend, as we all guessed it.

Wigan Athletic v Chelsea 15.00

Sunday 27th September 2009
Sunderland v Wolves 16.00

Monday 28th September 2009

Sorry for the delay, here's the weekends results.

26 September 2009
Portsmouth 0-1 Everton
Birmingham City 1-2 Bolton Wanderers
Blackburn Rovers 2-1 Aston Villa
Liverpool 6-1 Hull City
Stoke City 0-2 Manchester United
Tottenham Hotspur 5-0 Burnley
Wigan Athletic 3-1 Chelsea
Fulham 0-1 Arsenal

27 September 2009
Sunderland 5-2 Wolverhampton Wanderers

28 September 2009
Manchester City 3-1 West Ham United

Here's how we did.

Kenage     16+4
EPlayer     12+3
honeykid     7

Kenage     23+5
honeykid     20+3
EPlayer     19+4

A cracking weekend for Kenage whose 16 points and four correct predictions put him at the top of the heap for the weekend and moved him to the top of the table. EPlayer scored well too and, with 3 correct predictions, scored 12 points. I did ok, but no correct predictions left me with 7 points and third for the weekend.

As you may've noticed, I've left in the amount of correct predictions we've scored, both for the round and overall. Just thought you might like to see it.

Here are the weekend's fixtures

Saturday 03rd October 2009
Bolton v Tottenham 15.00
Burnley v Birmingham 15.00
Hull City v Wigan Athletic 15.00
Man Utd v Sunderland 17.30
Wolves v Portsmouth 15.00

Sunday 04th October 2009
Arsenal v Blackburn 13.30
Chelsea v Liverpool 16.00
Everton v Stoke City 15.00
West Ham v Fulham 15.00

Monday 05th October 2009
Aston Villa v Man City 20.00

After Kenage asked about which side was the home side, I thought I'd remind you all that the Premier table reads Wim/Draw/Loss and not Win/Loss/Draw as it is with American sports. I know I've said that before, but just in case anyone's forgotten.
Here's the current Premier table.

1     Manchester United 6 0 1
2     Chelsea 6 0 1
3     Liverpool 5 0 2
4     Tottenham Hotspur 5 0 2
5     Manchester City 5 0 1
6     Arsenal 4 0 2
7     Aston Villa 4 0 2
8     Sunderland 4 0 3
9     Everton 3 0 3
10 Wigan Athletic 3 0 4
11 Burnley 3 0 4
12 Stoke City 2 2 3
13 Bolton Wanderers 2 1 3
14 Birmingham City 2 1 4
15 Blackburn Rovers 2 1 3
16 Wolverhampton Wndrs 2 1 4
17 Fulham 2 0 4
18 West Ham United 1 1 4
19 Hull City 1 1 5
20 Portsmouth 0 0 7

Good luck!
